DESCRIPTION Your driver will pick you up in the morning at your accommodations in Rome to begin your drive to the coast. On the way, your driver will also point out various sites of interest such us the Abbey of Cassino. This was a monastery established by St. Benedict of Nursia around the year 529 as the source of the Benedictine Order. It was also the site of a famous battle in 1944 – this resulted from a bombing at the abbey by Allied leaders who believed that the Germans had occupied the monastery for use as an observation point. And of course you must see Mount Vesuvius, whose eruption caused the end of Pompeii almost 2,000 years ago.
Your first stop will be Sorrento. This old town is as beautiful as it is rich in history. Enjoy the tart taste of limoncello, the lemony liqueur that was first created here, making a stop in one of Sorrento’s oldest shops to learn how local ingredients are used in its production. From there we provide you with recommendations on the best sites to see, shops to visit and cafés to check out so you may continue your exploration of the town.
After Sorrento, you will continue along the world-famous Amalfi Coast to the postcard-perfect town of Positano. This location is considered to be the pearl of the divine coast for its steep vertical architecture built into the slopes of its cliffs, all overlooking the magnificent emerald-colored sea. The small center of Positano is full of colorful shops selling all varieties of local products including “Positano fashion” clothing, ceramics and delicious lemon cakes. You can also observe the parish church that oversees the entire village with its magnificent dome paved in majolica tiles. We will suggest one of the top local restaurants for you to stop for lunch where you can sample the flavors of the local Mediterranean cuisine while taking in breathtaking panoramas of the coast. Enjoy another leisurely walk around town before heading back to Rome at the end of the day.
